I was wondering what ya'll thought of it! jrod#1 11-09-2004, 11:37 PM I have a 2004 mountaineer and I love it.It runs great and it has alot of power.I would recommend it for anyone. MercAdvisor 11-10-2004, 10:18 AM Jrod, How many miles do you have on it? Have you had any transmission problems there seem to be alot of them creeping our way... jrod#1 11-10-2004, 09:44 PM I have about 12,000 milessmileys/smiley5.gif,the tranny is fine so far. What kind of problems could I be in for? MercAdvisor 11-11-2004, 07:32 PM Harsh shifts and delayed engagment into reverse.. You may get lucky and not have the problem at all but if you do there is a fix avaliable to your dealer but cannot be done unless the problem is present.. jrod#1 11-11-2004, 08:34 PM Hey MercAdvisor,my wife told me that it has been shifting hard while downshifting to pass and I actually noticed it today alsosmileys/smiley19.gif.As far as reverse, that is ok for nowsmileys/smiley4.gif.Thanks for the info,I appreciate it.Talk to ya later.smileys/smiley16.gif MercAdvisor 11-12-2004, 01:03 AM That may be a computer programing issue.. Happy to try to help didnt want to scare you or make you worry about the truck but just something to look out for usmcpao 01-16-2005, 07:07 PM We had our 2004 taken in and adjusted (?) for hard shifting. Also, just got a notice from Ford saying we should bring the vehicle in to have a new/different type of transmission fluid put in. MercAdvisor 01-16-2005, 09:00 PM Get the additive installed ASAP it is making a definate improvement in the shift quality of the vehicles and eliminating the harsh delayed engagments Edited by: MercAdvisor celticnet 01-22-2005, 12:03 AM < => <!-- var SymRealOnLoad; var SymReal; Sym() { window.open = SymWinOpen; if(SymReal != null) SymReal(); } SymOnLoad() { if(SymRealOnLoad != null) SymRealOnLoad(); window.open = SymRealWinOpen; SymReal = window.; window. = Sym; } SymRealOnLoad = window.onload; window.onload = SymOnLoad; //--> </> I had a 2002 Mountaineer and loved it. I purchased a 2004 in May and have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Problems included transmission banging into gear, fuel line problem (stalled and broke downon NJ turnpike),high pitch whistle while driving, and steering and wheel problems. I am basically wondering if anyone else has had numerous problems with this vehicle? I basically am in the service center every 3 weeks with something new. I would do anything to go back and not have purchased this vehicle. James 03-14-2005, 10:02 PM We just purchased a Newer used Mountaineer 03 w/ 20,000 miles. Recently , took this vehichle on a ski trip. Road conditions were very bad. The mountaineer handeled very well ,BUT harsh , and excessive shifting between 50 - 60 mph almost had us turning back. This is the only time we noticed the shifting issue. Good dry roads do not seem to evoke the harsh /banging shifts. We are not sure this is the way its supposed to be. MercAdvisor 03-14-2005, 10:08 PM As long as you are under you 36,000 mile warranty i would take the vehicle in for service.. They usally can replace the valve body and solenoid body and it should take care of the problem occasionally they need to update the pcm also.. James 03-14-2005, 10:14 PM We do have an appointment set for this week to have the vehichle checked for the shifting concerns. The service manager did mention the solenoid issue. Ive noticed several mentions of trans. fluid additives , or different fluids. Are these two issues connected ? MercAdvisor 03-14-2005, 10:16 PM They are only for the 04/05 model years it was a screw up in the factory where a low quality or under specified fluid was added this was not a concern in 03. James 03-14-2005, 10:35 PM There is another concern with this 03 Mountaineer. That is rough idle. Not sure if it is to low idle , but the 4.0 V6certaintly vibrates the cabin at idle. When I pop the hood the engine visibely shakes , and vibrates. Recently the vehichle stalled while waiting for traffic signals to turn . Also, the on board MPG info center has not posted north of 16 MPG since we brought the vehichle home. The first 250 miles we posted 19.9-20.6 mpg on the highway. We have driven the vehichle close to 1000 miles in about 10 days. Mostly Highway. celticnet 03-16-2005, 06:06 PM I have had an ongoing problem with my 04 Mountaineer vibrating while driving and at idle since January. The dealership has replaced the brake rudders, rebalanced the tires and realigned the car, and replaced the drive shaft, but the car stilldrives lousy. Ialso had the problem with the transmission back in October. Can the ongoing vibration be related to any of these problems, or is the dealership overlooking a simple solution? The carwill nowvibrate the most while just sitting in park, but that sensation can be felt while driving. Any ideas would be so much appreciated. Thank you. MercAdvisor 03-16-2005, 08:36 PM Is the vehicle a V-6 or V-8? celticnet 03-16-2005, 10:45 PM It is a V-6 MercAdvisor 03-16-2005, 10:53 PM well i know those engines are pron to vibrations but proably not as bad as you are experincing i will check it out at work and see if i can come up with anything for you.. celticnet 03-16-2005, 10:57 PM Thank you so much, I really appreciate any information you can find. |
