Okay, these instructions are based on how it works on the Taurus, CrownVictoria and Grand Marquis. Others are most likely similar.


If your power windows don't work, it could be the motor, the regulator, or simply 3 tiny plastic bushings which, over the years, just disintegrate due to wear. I fixed 3 of my 4 windows doing this work already, so it does work.


This is how the motor assembly looks like when taken apart:

Make sure it is all clean, no debris left. Then, lubricate all moving parts:

This is the window motor kit, which sells at auto parts places for around $35, I got 2 complete sets on eBay for less than that:

Make sure to lube all parts which are in motion, to reduce wear:

Most important: Make sure the 2 magnets are put back in place before you assemble the motor and gear housing (I did not at first, I had to..., you get the picture):

Then I plugged in the motor by itself first to see if it was working, all parts moving the way they should, good assurance.


I then assembled everything and voilà, here goes the window up and down. A little bit of dishwasher soap on the edges of the windows to help in the beginning, and your manual air is working again.


It's worth a try, these bushings will fail eventually, so not only can you prevent going Thur this procedure anyway, another possible cause which you can put a checkmark on, done.
