I recently replaced the front brakerotors, calipers and pads on my '97 AWDMountaineer (98K miles). I used after market parts. Things were fine for a week or so. Then the ABS light came on. Not sure if thelight coming on is related to the brake work. Brakes seem to work fine. Can anyone help me determine why the ABS light is on?

There are so many parts to that system without knowing what code is stored in the memory that tripped the light it would be way to big of a guessing game.

You would need a scan tool that works on ford products or any obdII scan tool. I do not know of anyway to pull codes without a tool

if you go to most large corporate parts stores, they will pull codes for free. like autozone...so on..

My car is a Moutaineer is a 99 and when my ABS light came on the dealership told me it was a bad sensor. You might want to check that.

RE: OBDII. The owners manual says FORD supports J1850. I purchased a generic OBDII reader that supports SAE J1850 PWM, J1850 VPW and ISO 9 141-2.I started the engine and hooked the reader up to the port on the Mountaineer - the OBDII reader came on but indicated that there were no codes to read (display was ----). The ABS light was on.


I called Autozone - they said the ABS does not report errors thru the OBDII. That a different analyzer is needed. They did state that its most likely a wheel sensor - but which one?
