Hello,

first cool this is here.

Well to the problem.

I have searched "WEB" also asked a few people.

THe mountianeer 98 seams to run great , well every once in awhile coming to a stop it dies. it also sometimes while going about hwy speeds then it will miss. it gives me a code once in a while, i think it was 420 something, about cat issue bank one. have no idea what bank one is. lol

Any help would be great. I am leaning toward afuel pump problembut dont know if there is any other control for fuel control.

Thank you in advance.

is your mountaineer a v-6 or a v-8

as for thep0420 code it does mean the cat convertor is not working properly

The stalling is a possible intake manifold gasket the v-6's have an issue with that. Or it could be a Idle Air Control valve.

Ill work on finding out which side is bank 1 i believe 1 is always on the left but want to make sure.Edited by: MercAdvisor

CoolI might actually be getting somewhere or at least a direction.

I think the Idle Air Control Valve would be easier to change will try it first. lol

I can change that right, like any other sensor?

I will do a test on the intake, hopefully its not it. but its probably cheaper.GRIN

Thank you again.

I really appreciate the help.

bank 1 is the left side.. the idle air control valve is like any other sensor and on some cars is super easy to change.

This sounds like the problem I'm having with my 2002 Mountaineer, V-6. Has my model been noted with this problem?

Hello,

Well I am a little late but finally did get back to the Merc. issue.

Well I took atorch and found no leaks, so assumed it was the IAC.

So today i went out lookingand only could find a V8 one.

Well

V6 = $100+

V8 = $50+

Looked at two and the only problem was the wire came out the back on V8 one. put gasket "came in box" on then tightened down.

Well everywhere I drove it today before, it would die. "Hence why I had to get er done. .lol "

Now it runs better and does not die yet.

So I think we got it. GRIN

Thanx Much.
