I don''t have the manual for my car. I was wondering if anyone knows how to disable the seat belt alarm in a 2002 Grand Marquis (besides buckling the seat belt).

you''d have to figure out how the seat belt buckle worked and modify that circuit to make the car think it''s always buckled. there is no way to disable it to my knowledge. it''s a safety feature to get people to buckle up even for the short trips down the street because the possibility of getting in an accident near the home is greater than at great distances due to the simple fact that people are generally closer to home most of the time.

personally I can''t get into a car and not buckle up... it doesn''t feel right.

I agree I don''t feel comfortable driving without a seat belt either. Its just annoying when I''m parked with the car running and the damn seat belt chime keeps going. Would modifying the circuit be as easy as just bypassing the seat belt and linking the circuit or is there some other way?

I would think that would do the trick, but I don''t have a similar vehicle to check. My 88 doesn''t have a seat belt buckle sensor and I don''t think my wife''s 93 vic does either. I know neither one of them have the complaining alarm that yours does. I do think they''re supposed to not trigger if in park, but I could be wrong since I don''t have one myself and I''m guessing.

it''s so easy

how did you go about doing it?

It''s a series of buckling and unbuckling of the seatbelt. I''m going to get my manual because I don''t remember the order of things. BRB

thanks I would really appreciate that.

I found the answer. Here it is:

One time disable

Any time the safety belt is buckled and then unbuckled during an

ignition ON cycle, BeltMinder will be disabled for that ignition cycle only.

Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder feature

Read steps 1 - 9 thoroughly before proceeding with the

deactivation/activation programming procedure.

The BeltMinder feature can be deactivated/activated by performing the

following procedure:

Before following the procedure, make sure that:

* the parking brake is set

* the gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral

position (manual transmission).

* the ignition switch is in the OFF position

* all vehicle doors are closed

* the driver’s safety belt is unbuckled

* the parklamps/headlamps are in OFF position (If vehicle is equipped

with Autolamps, the Autolamps feature MUST be turned off.)

To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt

Minder feature while driving the vehicle.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT

START THE ENGINE)

2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1–2

minutes)

* Steps 3–5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure will

have to be repeated.

3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the

safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during BeltMinder

warning activation.

4. Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps/headlamps.

5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the

safety belt unbuckled.

* After step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three

seconds.

6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off,

buckle then unbuckle the safety belt

* This will disable BeltMinder if it is currently enabled, or enable

BeltMinder if it is currently disabled.

7. Confirmation of disabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety

belt warning light four times per second for three seconds.

8. Confirmation of enabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety

belt warning light four times per second for three seconds, followed by

three seconds with the safety belt warning light off, then followed by

flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three

seconds again.

9. After receiving confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is

complete.
