I see it printed on the dash of my LS, but don't know what it does...any thoughts? ThanksEdited by: Alfer |
"Precision Trac" is what Mercury has named the standard suspension system on the Grand Marquis. It does not refer to ABS or Traction Control. Nothing special or optional. It's just a name.

1998 MGM - Traction Control light comes on and reduces engin torque when geting on/off Interstate. Did it once in heavy traffic at 65MPH on I95 creating potential accident. Tried to turn off with control switch but it doesn't work once system is activated. Have to pull off to side of road and stop before engine will accelerate again. Any fix other than bypassing control switch in glove box?

heard one guy tell me his had special posi-axle cuz it was printed on the dash called "Precision Trac" - haha.. As for gregv, is the TC light coming on while on dry or wet pavement? |
As for the terminology, I'm not aware of any other dash imprints besides Precision Track, or just Grand Marquis. However, a "Traction-Lok Axle" was an option even back in the early 90s. Not to be confused with "Traction Assist". Up to today, I have not been able to figure out whether both options where available at the same time. Greetings!Edited by: 92Mercury |
i seen those printed on the dash. mine has just the car's name printed on the dash right above the climate control |
I'm sure you didn't mean to include "Traction-Loc", right? Greetings! |
this guy thought Precision Trac meant Posi-traction or Traction-Loc axle...told him that precision trac wasn't related to the rear differential. Still not sure he fully understood... |
Well, with the "Traction-Lok", many use the terminology of "Posi-Tack", cause it sounds more masculine. The only muscle on our "old man's car" might be the V8 (thus not the 5.0 HO) and the dual exhaust. And, the nice intake noise when stepping on the accelerator. LOL Greetings! |
In black, with dual exhaust, some chrome tips on the back these can look a bit more exilerating than something sitting in granny's driveway...hahah... surprised how taking off the TC you can leave a "little" rubber behind. here's some mercury muscle i think is really cool. shame that ford didn't use this engine in all grand marquis' haha... Definately noTraction Controlin use here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2OhIuGtpqU |
