Default Stutter problem

Hey all im new here, I have a 2000 sable 24v. I have recently been having problems with the car. After driving a long distance 40miles, if i shut the car off walk away and come back in 20minutes or so car starts up fine. But when i put it in drive or reverse and give it gas it stutters like crazy. If i keep stabbing at the gas it clears up. Its been doing it in almost once a week now. I thought it maybe fuel filter block up and maybe a pump but i rather get advise before spending money i may not need to. thanks for the help

Default It sounds like a low idle problem...

Your trottle linkage may be getting hung up at low idle. Do you have a lot of miles on your car? Your throttle body may be worn so that the throttle plate is sticking in the throttle bore. Look for grooves worn into the throttle bore from the plate and for excessive play around the throttle shaft. Have you noticed any problems going up hills at low speeds (like around 35mph)?

No problems up hill, its like its not getting gas. i think its a bad iac not sure. it has 140,000, throttle linkage and others are tight and clean. at 35mph the car shakes when its in overdrive. it only does every once in awhile but its after a long drive then sitting for 20min or so then starting it up. After starting it idles fine, if you rev it, it gets choppy, put it in gear then and give it gas then it stutters

Default I think you nailed it!

I forgot about the IAC. You're absolutely right. My daughter's car had the same problem a few years ago and the IAC fixed it.

I had a Honda Accord... biggest lemon I've ever owned. Next was a '93 Taurus (also a lemon). I think you can get a lemon in any car. My Sable has been a great car except for the bucking and auto headlamp problems. Look at my current thread about it. Good luck to you though.

I stammer, so, believe me when I say that there is no hope for you tomorrow. : ) I have many excellent excuses, though, for legitimately getting out of the speech. But, if you survive tomorrow, I STRONGLY recommend that you contact Toastmasters International and join that outstanding, fun, easy little club and get over your stutter or stammer speech-giving fears in like . . . three meetings? It's that cool. Here's the link to their website to learn more. As for tomorrow, just be yourself, stutter, warts and all, and you'll be fine. Your classmates and teacher already know you stutter. So, whenever it happens, just toss a hearty smile at your audience, roll your eyes, and begin where you left off. Make what you have to say be more interesting than how you say it. Best of luck.
