thought i would post on my car and tell you all about it. it is a 1987 4 door Grand Marquis i bought for $250. it only hs 106k on it and runs great. when i first saw the car, it didnt run and i had to install a fuel pump and fix a brake line. since then i have done some work to it nd cleaned it up. it sat for 3-5 years under a tree and was sunk into mud. car looked like it would have been better off going to the junk yard. since owning the car, i have installed new calipers, new stereo, did some engine work, and used it for some long trips. i bought the car at the beginning of November 2007 and hit has come a long way. here are some pictures of when i first saw the car going thru to how it looks now. i understand i still have some work ahead of me. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...achickenfarmer /Grand%20Marquis/sandygettinglife1.jpg

Wow, looks like you've already gone a long way.

It appears you were lucky with the corner/turn signal lights, and the rims look decent, too. How is the interior?

I'd say, a good polish, some engine compartment cleaning, it will sure clean it up.

Greetings!

i plan on giving it a good hand bath and using the buffer when weather is permitting again. interior is in pretty good shape. i need to fix the dash pad by fiberglassing it, and clean a few stains in the car from before i owned it. the car belonged to an older couple, the guy passed away a few years ago and the wife stopped driving it. it has been sitting since. when the wife passed away, the sons ended up with ownership and wanted to get rid of it. they told me about it and didnt know what to ask for it and i told them what the junkyard would want for it. they said $250 and it is yours. i have been wanting a Mercury for a while and finally got one. i have even been offered by people around my area to trade it for there 4x4s. i refuse there offers

That should do.

Mine has a similar history, was sitting outside for almost 5 years. Luckily no sun damage to neither paint, steering wheel nor dashboard. A tree covered it well, but left it's signs almost everywhere on the car.

Yes, check out the other posts. Mine is doing excellent in snow and ice, quite surprising.

Besides that the MGM is one of the last surviving dinosaurs, your's got one of the last 5.0 HO's in there. What an engine!

Greetings!

unfortunately, Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria, and TownCars didnt come with a H.O. 5.0L.the H.O. has a different firing order and a different cam. it also has a difference in the upper plenum, throttlebody, EGR spacer, and cylinder heads. i plan on converting my Grand Marquis to be an HO since i have a throttle body and upper intake/plenum i can swap on. i would just need to swap out to some better cylinder heads, and go to the HO cam and computer. my cars might not be HO engines, but i make them scream like they are even though they are stock and i tweek them.

I see. Thanks for clarifying.

Anyhow, it's a 5.0, that'll do LOL

i like my pushrod 5.0 engines. they are easier for me to work on and can be built like a mustang engine. they are also cheaper to modify and build up. they are ford's version of the Chevy 350 in terms for modifications. cheap to build up compared to modifying a 4.6. there are many things that can be done to these cars to make them better that people dont realize since they are mostly used as luxury cars cars and not made into sleepers.

Yeah, that's what I had to find out, tons of stuff available for the 5.0, hardly anything for the 4.6.

Okay, I personally wouldn't do anything to the engine, I'd rather invest that in a "real" car then, but there are many mods which show improvement of running conditions or similar.

I had the air restrictor taken out of my SHO (CA version). I got around 1 more mile per gallon.

That's why I'd like to put the dual exhaust on mine, as the single limits horsepower. Maybe I can gain a bit in fuel mileage. Not that it's bad, but I wait till I need an exhaust anyway.

I saw that, i.e. JC Whitney, has a section for the 4.6 liter Mustang. You can pick up certain parts there.

Greetings!

if you go with dual exhaust on your car, you can get shorty headers or mustang short exhaust manifolds, H pipe or X pipe for better flow and for tail pipes from what i hear, Impala tails. my cars will get exhaust run out in front of rear tires. the bend that goes over the rear axle is a restriction.

Nice wheels. Thisis my favourite generation as I think they look the classiest (side opera lights were a nice too). I had an 83 much like yours - except it had the 351W. Enjoy!
