Default Brake issue..Pedal very low

The previous owner had installed a new Master cylinder in 8/07 at 85K miles. I have the receipt.
Is it posible the master went bad so soon?

Im able to stop but theres no pedal. It really goes down far. The fluid is at the proper level.
The brake warning light is not lit.

Never heard of replacing a master so often. Unless its something else..

Any ideas?

It could be air in the lines. I know you said that the master cylinder is at the proper level. Was it always at the proper level, or did it get low & fluid added to it? If it did get low, that could have allowed air to get into the lines which needs to be bled out.

Again it could be a bad master cylinder. Life of a master cylinder depends on the driving requirements. A car that travels down the interstate for a 100 miles between brake use is going to have a much longer lasting master cylinder, & brakes than one that is used in rush hour traffic where the brakes are used 10 times a minute.

Another thought is was the replacement master cylinder a new unit or a rebuilt unit. A rebuilt will not have the life expectancy of a new unit.

I would check the brake system out, or have it done. When it comes to importance, the brakes are at the top of the list. Lawyers have a field day with drivers who are involved in an accident with bad brakes.

Brought it to my mechanic this morning. Popped a new master in. I was out in 30 mins..$210....Best mechanic!!

PS..I did bring it to Pep Boys Sunday cause no one else is open. So, the guy said it would cost $400 for the master and he wasnt sure if the could have the car done the same day. LOL..can You imagine. I was at Pep Boys at 11am!!!....THEY ARE A WASTE!!
