Car lights dim when the subs hit?

One of my friends own a Mercury Mystique. Car lights getting dim every time whenever he turns up the sound and subs start to hit out bass. Is this because of low battery power or something else. Does that mean he need a better battery or an alternator? or even both? Well, I have a kenwood amp 9152 d 1800 max watts and a 3000 watt pioneer premier sub.
Please help to fix this problem.

Thanks..

this is because the alternator is not powerful enough to maintain at those levels. an alternator UPGRADE would definitely help, but one of those inline power caps (the 1.5 or 2 farad ones) may do the trick just fine. If adding the cap doesn't keep the lights from dimming, you'll need to upgrade the alternator to a higher current rating (like if the rating now is 100 amp, he'll need a 130 amp alternator).

an extra battery would help too ... but alternator upgrade is almost alwways needed for hard hitting systems

so basically you put the postive of both your subs into one postive of your amp and both of your negative from the two subs into one negative on your amp?

if you have a channel for each sub, then you can run them on each sub like a normal speaker. what we're talking about is providing enough power to keep the subs powered and everything else powered as well. If you only have one channel on your amp to power two subs, then look into a bridging setup and check to see if your amp is capable of that.
