usually one of two places. either on the back of the speedometer between the speedo and the cable, or on the transmission between the trans and the speedo cable.
that's the vehicle speed sensor though. Can't find any information on a wheel speed sensor. Might be the same thing, just reading off different lists. I usually hear wheel speed sensors when people are talking about ABS and having their ABS light on or blinking. |
yes, sorry called it wrong name. it is vss. i will look in those spots. thanks

I tried to research it a little but can't find a Capri made in '92. It's the smaller, front wheel drive model they came out with, right?
|
yes, the one produced in Australia
|
followed speedo cable from back of speedometer to where it goes into transmission without finding any sensor, any other ideas where to look?
|
it may be what the speedo cable plugs into at either end. but then I'm used to the american versions. I've never seen the VSS located anywhere else on cable driven speedometers. again, that's on american versions.

it could also be a sensor attached to the back of the instrument cluster. I know on the 85 pontiac I had, there was a sensor (looked like an infrared LED and photodiode in a little plastic housing. from what I can tell about the sensor on the USA version (picture on autozone's site)... it looks like it's bolted into the trans (probably with the speedo gear attached to it inside the trans) and the cable clips onto it outside the trans. if there's two wires coming from it, that's probable the sensor.
