94 SE Capri, 1.6L non-turbo Manual

Engine will not run above 3000 RPM. Great below 3000. Starts easy. Idle is smooth. Accelerates well, then at 3000 RPM it''s like the ignition is turned off. When revs drop off to about 2700 RPM the engine starts again, runs up to 3000 then quits again.

I''ve checked the Engine Management system and there are no error codes.

I would appreciate any advice on how to fix this problem.

Could be a head gasket leak. Check the oil if there is any water in it. it would look white milky. A blown head gasket somtimes causes this because the motor is choking when high rpm''s are applied

Just got the car back from the Ford man.

THe problem was a throttle position sensor. Didn''t show any error codes but replacement fixed the problem

After three weeks of workingn just fine, it died again last night. Exactly the same as before.

So back to square one. The chariot is not working. It runs out of horses. Good thing my trust is still solid. Better yet that He is trustworthy!!

rock on brother!. he is trustworthy and will never fail you.

most likely you have a faulty sensor and or connector. look at the pigtail connection and clean it out. was this an aftermarket part that was put on?

on these turbo cars the TPS pigtail gets hot and burns out the sensor and or the connector. check the connector

Wish He would get here and fix my car (which is really His anyway)

The TPS was a brand new Ford original. ( I live in Oz, where the Capri was designed and built. It is badged as a Ford down here)

Checked the connector and the adacent wiring and it''s all good (Down here the SE was available in turbo and non-turbo models. Mine is non turbo)

So I am about to embark on a unit by unit check of all the sensors.
