My son has a 99 cougar and the brake lights stopped working


I've checked the switch the fuses replaced the turn signal lever and the flasher all of which were sugessted by a mercury mechanic stil no brake lights Is anyone able to help Ive heard that the sensor that detects a lamp failure could cause this too but cant seem to find whee its located and the local dealer has no listing for any such part


the son just had a new baby and is running out of money replacing these parts i would appreciate any help

Hello,well if you havn't got your lights fixed yet he is the solution my wife had a 99 with same issue first off you will need the 98 wirinng diagam find the stop lamp relay then change it ,it is some where between the center console and drivers seat and is underneathif you have any questions feel free to email me will do what ever i can to help

When my lights broke off because of a slight bumper accident I had to ask my brother assist me in repairing them.
