anybody replace the engine
#1
Hello,
newbie here, just found this site. I'm an old mechanic that has moved into the A/C! I'm a pretty good T/Ser on mechanical, electrical, and driveablility diagnostics.
But, I no longer have access to my Alldata. I was hoping somebody might be able to help me out. I just buoght a '99 Cougar w/2.5L V6, engine tag 8G400. The engine was bad so I got this for next to nothing. The Autozone website has some data but not all that nice. Anyway it says you have to drop the engine with the transmission. I'm thinking, I'm going to give it a try not to remove the tranny. Anybody know is it that you can't separate the two enough to remove the engine?
Why remove both?
How many labor hours?
Thanks Sam

To drop the motor in the cougars/contours/mystiques,they suggest it come out together because of the sub frame. I've known a couple of people to try it from the top and all have said if they did it again it would be with the subframe off. The whole unit comes out(motor/tranny/axles/wheels/subframe as one piece) Trust me,its a lot less aggravating this way.
