Locating sensor
I need help to locate the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor and the Coolant sender unit. This is on a 2001 2.5L V6 Cougar.

one should be on the thermostat housing (where the upper radiator hose goes to the engine). This is common to most vehicles. Not sure about the other.

The thermostat housing is remote of the block. There are rubber hoses that extend the thermostat away from the block and it has no sensors. Between the two coolant hoses the lead from the motor is what I believe to be the Coolant Temp sending unit.
All I need now is to find where the actual Engine Coolant Temp sensor is. I still need help finding this please. Thanks:D |
interesting. I would have never guessed they would do that with a thermostat.

for those who may need to know
For anyone who may need to know in the future. To get to these rascals you need an awesome set pliers or channel lock pliers to get the coolant hoses out of the way. Take off the rubber intake boot and the air filter box. Also needed is a 19mm deep set socket or a 19mm combination wrench.
The Coolant Temp Sending sensor is located on the driver side of the block and easiest to find if standing behing the driver side front wheel facicing the passenger side wheel. It is the sensor inbetween the coolant hoses coming from the engine block. The Engine Coolant Sensor is roughly at a 90* angle from the previous mentioned sensor and it is on the block, nearest the firewall. Its a bit har to see with all the vaccum lines and coolant lines and oh yah, all the dirt but its there. I kept getting a code that said the cooling fans and relays were bad. I tested the system by cranking on the A/C. When the A/C kicked in, both fans immediately engaged. That told me the relay and the fans were functioning properly. I then decided to spend $30 total to have these two sensors replaced and solved the problem. Hope this helps some one out there.;) |
