Questions re 8th gen models
 

Hello, everyone! I've got a few questions about purchasing a Cougar and I hope I can find some answers here.

I used to have a '99 and I adored that car, kind of sorry I got rid of it, actually. But I'm in the market to buy another and I'm wondering between an older model with few miles, and a newer model with more miles, which is the better way to go? I'm trying to stick with buying one with less than 100k miles on it. I'm also trying to stay at or under $5k.

Also, does anyone know if the leather seats are actually leather, or leatherette/vinyl? I do NOT want leather, and I'm finding a lot of listings for models with leather seats.

When I had mine it was still relatively new and I never had a problem with it. Given their age now, is there anything in particular I need to look out for?

not real sure about cougars, but less mileage is generally better (see if you can verify maintenance on either. The one with the best records is usually in the best shape regardless of miles). one thing I know to look out for is a sloppy transmission on the automatics. if it doesn't shift smoothly and if it's got any shuddering at all, pass on it.
