I just picked up a very clean 1997 Cougar with the 3.8 V6. Only issue that I can find with it is a leaky rear main seal.

Can sombody tell me if this seal requires removal of the Pan or is it external like later Ford engines and only requires removal of the trans and flexplate to access the seal plate that unbolts from the back of the block?
