Stiff torque steering on my 00’ Cougar

I just purchased my first Mercury, a 2000 model Cougar! I love everything about the car but the stiff torque steering[img]smileys/smiley6.gif[/img]!! Is this normal and is there anything I can do to correct the stiff torquey feel?? TIA!Edited by: mikeysscott

I think that's just how the car handles, so does my 2001 Cougar. You get used to it and when you are driving fast...you can appreciate the steering.

The steering is typically heavy on the New Edge Cougars. It is part of the sporty character of the car.


If your car tends to ''lurch'' to one side when you accelerate, that is torque steer. Typically doesn''t happen to anydegree of concernwith the Cougar/Contour/Mystique.
