How to remove heavy brake dust
My friend owns a Grand Marquis. Last week we went on a drive and after came back I noticed brake dust all over the wheels. We tried to remove it, but had no success. Just wondering what product or procedure should he use to completely remove heavy brake dust and grime? Planning to visit Autobarn store this weekend to check out useful stuff.
Any recommendations.. |
dish soap and a rag usually works for me (after using the sprayer head on the hose to wash off the loose stuff). Make sure it's a shop rag and not a bath rag as you won't ever use it as a bath rag again (it will get stained).

Ya do search for the shop rag to clean the dust and grime. It would clean the brakes nicely.

Go to your local car wash and ask them to "acid" your wheels. It is some strong stuff!! It won't damage your wheels as long as it is sprayed off right after application

Do you have chrome rims? If so try Brasso or Bar Tenders Friend. They are both polishes designed for cleaning chrome or brass fixtures. I had an old Ranger Splash with pitted, nearly black chrome rims (pervious owner never cleaned them I guess) and they were a MESS. It took some elbow grease, but the Brasso made them shine like NEW! Once finished they looked like a mirror, nice and silver again.
Once you do get them clean put a coat of wax on, this way the next time the dust should come off with a quick spray of Simple Green and pressured water from a hose. Then recoat with wax. electric car charging |
