I have a 1982 Capri with a 255 v8 , the 255 has 170,000 miles, has blow- by, (bad rings and/or valve guides)and no high performance parts are available for this particular engine. I have a 302 engine(1982)it has a stock variable venturi carb, and this does not matter as I intend to replace both the junk carb and intake with edelbrock, the #8 cylinder had water/rust in it, and it is hard to tell if the head gasket blew. what I would like to know is: 1) would having a "sleave" put in the #8 cylinder solve the water in cylinder problem?,does this require boring out the cylinder? and/or a different diameter piston? 2) can this engine even be mounted in a 1982 mercury capri? 3)will this engine bolt up to my tranny that is on the 255v8(not sure what type of tranny it is,but I know it does not have overdrive). I was told that all ford smallblocks were same size and trannys and different makes/models are interchangeable?. What I hope to achieve is this: 1) I dont care so much about cost and time, Im doing this partly for fun and education.(I dont care what the negative "experts" say). 2)30-50% stock/50-70% high performance, at very least: chrome moly rings/hydrolic lifters and roller rockers/edelbrock manifold and carb/possible porting of heads. and crank joarnal in one set of pistons is worn to the bone and will require machining./oil pump/connecting rods/bearings/etc./..... Any info is greatly appreciated!! |
A quick check is to ask Summit Racing. They have good techs. www.summitracing.com Lenny. |
