87_Crown_Vic 01-17-2008 07:03 PM

i have a 1987 Grand Marquis with a 5.0L and a 3.27 trac-lok rearend. i plan on installing a HO cam, changing cylinder heads to some GT40s, swapping the upper intake/plenum, and putting on some shorty headers connected to a H pipe.

thought i would put something in here since it is filled with SPAM!!!

BFM70 05-23-2008 01:09 AM

What an amazing sleeper that car could make. You thinking about a Ford cam? I think the B303 would be perfect for your app.

Probably the most overlooked part in 5.0 builds is the fuel system. A big azz fuel pump with larger feed and return lines and some 24lb injectors will really wake it up with a little tuning. Is the 87 Merc 5.0 a mass air stsem or speed density? If it's mass air you'll want to upsize trhe MAF and throttle body too....If you haven't already.

87_Crown_Vic 05-23-2008 11:05 AM

i have a pair of 1987 Crown Vic 2 doors i am going to build up. my first 2 door i got will get a 1997 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0L since it is a H.O. setup and would only need to swap the computer/ECM, do the shorty headers, connected to the offroad "X" pipe i have and install the Typhoon upper and lower intake set i have. my cars are at a standstill at present due to just moving and needing to find a job.

I still don''t undrstand why you insist on using another stock computer?

Whay don''y you get it reburned or run a program to squeez out more from you exsiting unit? This way it is custom and it can be changed.

jason sereiko 07-08-2008 11:35 PM

If you go with the 24ibs, then you have to use a stock cobra mass air flow unless you get an adjustable one that is very expensive. I am doing the sam build for real and I am almost done. the trick is getting something in the budget and something that you can add parts to without having to completley change the computer, thats why I say run a program from www.moates.com for all of the racing computer stuff.

A good tip when doing thes bolt ons to the stock 5.0 is that the pistons are junk and since they are not the 5.0 H.O they will not clear anything bigger then a stock H.O cam. So if you are keeping the stock pistons, you are wasting your time. That is why I posted a more expensive build because the 5.0 H.O is the motor to start out with unless you build yours to fit the the componets of the 5.0.

The cool thing all the hard work has been done and you can pick and choose parts since you might already have some.

Me personally, I like to just swap the Mustang cobra setup since it is Verrry cheap used parts and they fit with awesome performance. Most cobra parts are cheap because they are sold on ebay after guys get bigger and better parts.
