'96 Grand Marquis Shifter Linkage

I have '96 GS and have to replace shifter tube in steering column. I was wondering if there was anyone to help me with some possible tips.
This is not something I've tried before. Oh and yes it has a tilt wheel.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
