AC Compressor

I need your Help! my compressor on my 03 Mercury Sable Seized up and would like to remove it and replace it with the Bypass pulley. Is it Hard to remove the Compressor? and is there a link to look at the process of doing so?Thanks in advance!

the problem is getting the refrigerant out. If you don't remove it properly, you can break stuff by just pipping the lines off (explosive decompression will cause the lines to leave your hands with little you can do about it and may damage other things nearby - including yourself). After the system is evacuated, then it's just a matter of taking the hoses off and unbolting the compressor. You shouldn't need a bypass pully as there are usually belts for systems without A/C and all you'll have to do is get the compressor out of the way. You may want to get some fittings to plug the lines once you get the compressor off so you can evacuate the system again and leave it empty but still in the car in case you get the chance to replace the compressor later.
