As we all know (and probably looked for at one point in time), the dealership sometimes charge an outrageous amount of money for keypad code readouts, transponder keys, remotes etc. etc.

I posted before that I got my keypad code free from my dealership. Well, I give them some business too, if I had just looked for another freebie, it might have been different.

I need another transponder key, I have only 1, so I have to see the dealer or a locksmith to program it (if you have 2 keys, you can program any additional one yourself).

I found only 2 locksmiths in my area equipped with the electronic gizmo's necessary, and each one of them still run about $75. Since local phone calls are still free (how much longer???), I thought I give my dealer a call.

And guess what: Key, cut and programmed: $69.99. Can't complain about that, they are actually $5 cheaper than the locksmith.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of maintenance done at other places, due to the dealer being simple overpriced. It's just nice to see that once in a while you don't' have to go aftermarket.

Greetings!

I feel for you buddy... I just bought an extra and had to buy a new remote too. I plan on programming a third key, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't think there's any way of getting around, or finding a lower price for the extra key for you. I think I paid $69.00 for the service and the key. With the new remote and all, I think I paid $125.00. The only thing I could think of doing while I paid this outragous price was to walk around and act like it meant nothing to me, like I was rich!

I like that! That's what you do.

$69 for the key programmed is a "okay" price. Now I got 2 keys, and can program the additional ones myself. I found a dealer who sells the original "STRATTEC" key (manufacturer of the transponder system" for $9.50 incl. shipping.

Now, the FOB I didn't get. Besides $85!!!!!!!!!!!!! for one unit, the dealer said he had to order one, but was not able to confirm that the car actually has FOB.

You can get the FOB's new for around $35. Now I just have to find out if the car came equipped with it. I have a printout from the dealer with the options the car was delivered with, but this information is missing.
