I have a 2001 gm and the keyless remote has stopped working.I have purchesed two from ebay and they appear to work when I took to autozone to check them. I have turned the ignition four times to get into program mode and the locks lock then unlock but when i press a button on the remote nothing happens. Is there a fuse somewhere? is my option to get inside to door to the rke module. The outside keypad works.https://www.mercuryforum.com/smileys/smiley16.gif

couldn''t you just change the battery in the original remotes? usually it takes removing one small screw and the shell opens up and you can replace the 3v button battery. If there''s no screw, then there should be a slot around the edge somewhere to stick a small flathead screwdriver and pry it apart.

my local autozone has a small box that will test the remote. One of the remotes was bad and two were fine.

I''d say first of all the remotes have to be the right ones. Many sold are not. Some even look identical, but the transmitting frequency does not match.

Second, the programming he described is incomplete. After getting into programming mode, any button other than the emergency button has to be pressed within 5 seconds. Otherwise, the doors will lock/unlock to tell that programming mode has been exited.

I would check compatibility first. It says it on the back of the remote, compare it with the original.

Greetings!

thanks to everyone trying to help me. I had not thought of the remote on a different frequency.I will check into that next.I know about the press a button within the allotted time or else you have to start over while in program mode.I will call the dealer and inquire about the remote.I will get back to you and let you know if it works. Thanks again for the help..https://www.mercuryforum.com/smileys/smiley14.gif

I contacted my local mercury dealer and inquired about the remotes.I was told that what matters with the remotes are the "FCC " numbers on the back along with the part numbers and that I had the wrong remotes.I spent $36.00 for one and the remote works just like it should after going through the programming procedure!!

glad you got it working again.
