Timing Chain guide

I have a 2009 Mountaineer V6. The guide for the drivers side timing chain broke off and got sent up through the valve cover. The engine kept running (but spit oil everywhere). I picked out the pieces of the chain guide. My question is whether it's possible to replace the chain guide without pulling the whole engine out of the car. Anybody ever tried this?
