I have a 94 mercury villager 3.o engine 6 cly that is making noise when turned on i was told it was the valve lifters I replaced the back one but still making noise I am going to replace the front ones were I was told the noise is coming from how do you know if you need to replace the lifters, I was low on oil no over heating and no oil light came on added oil but still noise please help thanks

some hydraulic lifters are just noisy after a number of years. the ones in the 302 in my 88 grand marquis make it almost sound like a diesel for the first few minutes until the oil gets flowing well. even then it still sounds like an old truck running down the road. You may have to replace all the lifters to quiet the noise. There are other members that may have better points to make about this though, so hang out and see what they say.
