1978 Mercury Grand Marquis

Hey there,

I'm about to buy my first american classic, a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis, but somehow I can't find the right specifications for this car. Please help me out.

It's this car: http://www.autoscout24.nl/Details.aspx?id=vjucftoku1bc

Greetz from Holland

There were 3 engines available, all V-8's.
351 C.I. (5.8L) 145HP @ 3400RPM, 273 FT/LBs Torque @ 1800 RPM
400 C.I. (6.6L) 160HP @ 3800RPM, 314 FT/LBs Torque @ 1800 RPM
460 C.I. (7.5L) 202HP @ 4000RPM, 348 FT/LBs Torque @ 2000 RPM

Fuel Tank Capacity 24.2 Gallons (91.6Liters)

Fuel Mileage City: 13 Miles Per Gallon (18L per 100K)
Highway: 19 Miles per gallon (12L per 100K)

I'm quite sure the transmission would be a Ford C-6 3 speed. Possible could be one with overdrive with a 4th gear. I don't remember what year that one came out.

Thanks, I also found two differents lengths for this car. One site says its approx. 212 inches, the other says its 229 inches.

Which one is true? Its a 2-door hardtop with a 460 ci.

The Grand Marquis of that year was was big, it would be the 229 inches. 212 inches is about what the new ones are today, and they are much shorter than the 1978's.

I also lied to you about the gas mileage as I wasn't thinking about the 460, They were good for about 10 mpg city and 14 mpg highway.
