Default 1988 Grand Marquis Engine Swap

I have a 1988 Mercury Grand Marquis and isn’t in bad shape. Previous owner was a young kid who neglected it. In the tear down process for a total rebuild. I was wondering is there any options for engine replacement that are better than the 302 or 351?

With today's gasoline prices at nearly $5.00 per gallon, I would look for another 302, or rebuild the one you have, with upgraded parts from Summit Racing -- with the accent on economy and longevity.
I restored the famous 95 MERC with most parts from Amazon.com and RockAuto.com.
