1996 Marquis hard start- long crank time
My Mom's 1996 Marquis has began having a long crank to start. She sometimes gives up on it. I suspected fuel pump but it has 40 psi almost immediately, and when it does start it carries 40 psi and then jumps to 45 when I hit the throttle fast. I took fuel regulator vacuum hose off and no gas in that. I changed the crank sensor. I replaced three relays that are in the grey fuse control box near battery. One I believe is for the ECM. I also took off the positive lead that hooks on the side of that fuse center and cleaned it. I now wonder about the Idle control motor and the throttle position sensor.Once it does start it will start fine the rest of the day. It had new spark plugs a year ago .Any ideas please? Thanks
UPDATE- The fuel pump quit entirely so had to bite the bullet and replace it. Unfortunately the long crank time starting issue is the same. Fuel pressure didnt change from the old pump values. I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator with another one from a parts car.(known to run well). I guess IAC and MAF are next. |
