2000 fuel pump not kicking on...sometimes?
 

I have a 2000 Grand Marquis that is giving me fits. SOMETIMES when you turn the key to the on position, the fuel pump does not kick on. When this happens the car won't start. When it does kick on the car runs fine. Have you ever heard of a fuel pump going out in this manner? What else could it be? I replaced the fuel pump relay with no different results..

Hi Chuck, i'm having the same problem with my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis! Replaced fuel pump with a Motorcraft like original and also the pump relay. Starts sometimes and sometimes not? Towed it to a shop and they said they thought it was the fuel pump? I told them the new
one does the same as the old one. I have no idea what is wrong with this car!

I had that same problem several years ago with the famos 95 MERC.
I replaced the IGNITION SWITCH and the problem never returned.
