There is a substancial diffrence in the suspension packages in from the 2002 to the 2003 model year Mercury Grand Marquis just wondering what any of the owners of these models think....

I don't own either one, but I have driven them both quite a bit. I personally like the newer suspension set up much better. The ride is a little more firm, but you don't get the body roll or "float" like you do in the older models.

Basically what they have done is moved the suspension out closer to the wheelsto improve the stance of the car. They have also gone to a spring over coil design, that makes the suspension more responsive.

I agree, I've rented the 2002 and I own the 2003. The new suspension makes the car feel more stable; there isminimallean and it doesn't feel likethe car's about to losethe way you're steering (it actuallyalmost feels like it's on a track guiding it). Itmakes the biggest difference when cornering. Also, you have more sense of what that pothole just did to your tires. https://www.mercuryforum.com/smileys/smiley4.gifEdited by: AngelD

I think more of what is giving it that "on a track" feel is the rack and pinion steering. It just gives the car a better on center feel. The car is also designed to give more feedback to the driver through the steering wheel and gas / brake pedal, while isolating it from the passenger compartment.
