The mirrors on my wife''''s 2002 MGM have gone non-functional... Initially you could see some movement of the mirrors but it seemed like gears were stripped in the drive mechanisms...

Now, there is no action at all from either mirror... The appropriate fuse checks ok - any ideas as to where I go next???

more than likely you will have to replace the mirrors, but I would double check that wires in the doors are connected properly. If you want to be really industrious, you could try to rebuild the mirrors yourself. They may just be gummed up and need new grease on the gears. You might also check to make sure that the mirror control is working properly as well.

Can you hear the servos behind the mirror still trying to function?

No, the mirrors are completely dead... earlier this summer at least they were moving but you couldn''t really position them - almost like the gear train was stripped out or the like...

If they both crapped out at the same time then I am leaning toward somthing in the controls (adjust/toggle) or wiring. Have you checked if there is any juice at the mirrors?

All I''ve done so far is to check the fuse under the dash - it''s OK and the manual says it operates other things (keyless entry) and that is working... AAMOF, I''ve checked all the fuses under the dash just tomake sure I wasn''t missing anything... I haven''t checked under the hood in the power distribution box and I haven''t ripped out the switch or door panel yet...

It''s a little cold here (20''s) to be working outside right now but I thought if it was something obvious you guys knew that I do not, I''d have a go at that...

Like conan312 said... if they both died at the same time, check the controls. If there''s dirt built up in the controls, it will cause issues. I''m not sure if you could clean that part though, but it''s worth a try. much cheaper than new power mirrors.
