We have a large car dealer here in town, handles all kinds of brands.

They are selling the 2008 model (MSRP $25,005) for $16,500, lease backs, with around 7k miles on them. What a bargain.

Checked them out, vehicles come with foglights, and yes, there's even a tachometer in the cluster.

As it's being said, you buy a new vehicle, pull out the car lot, and the first couple grand are gone.

Wow.....$16,500 is down in the Focus price range. That's a lotta car for that small amount of money.

You going to go get one?

92Mercury 10-26-2007 06:53 AM

I agree, comfort and safety are worlds apart, and with 17/25mpg more than worth it.

Not to mention reliability, spare parts and interchangeability. There are new cars out there for that kind of money (Kia Optima). But once I cruise down the road and hardly notice their bad condition (our roads are baaaaad here), I know why I drive a large car.

Not me, have enough trouble keeping my old one running and unmolested.

Greetings!

Well, they got another delivery last night. My eyes caught a dark blue one, wow!

What I discovered: All of them have dual exhaust, and I couldn't find that as an option in the current packages, so looks like it's standard.

Also, the ones w/o the front license plate holder seem to have an air cooler hanging there (in the bumper of course, but exposed w/o any protection). Don't know if it is the one for power steering or transmission, but sure looks odd. Doesn't really fit the nice and sleek appearance.

Greetings!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I WANT ONE!

I'm drooling: Guess what they have:

In case you wonder: I'm driving the stripped NASCAR version, I don't even have a cupolder.

I'm getting a $6,500 rebate on my new 2008, so I'm happy.

Thats a good reduction plus if the dealer marks the car down a bit more huge saving then - less than some used cars...

see you wait long enough you'll find that cupholder won't even have to go to Wally World either

20marquis07 11-22-2007 04:44 PM

I saw a new GS and LS sitting side by side the other day. The GS sticked at just over 27K. Those prices haven't increased much over the last 5 years. While others have gone up 3-4 grand during that time.

Seems like a Sable and Taurus sitting next to the MGM was around 33 grand. I'll take the Marquis any day for that price

92Mercury 11-23-2007 12:31 PM

You know, you're so right. This dealership I was referring to, they have Taurus and Sable, for the same price.

I understand that people might go with either one of them, because of styling or a few miles more per gallon, for me, there's no doubt, I'd rather have the flagship.

Ahoy!

20marquis07 11-23-2007 12:46 PM

Price wise, the flagship is definately a better buy.

Read this morning on the cars that were disappearing for 08 the Crown Vic and Town Car were going into fleet only sales. Nothing mentioned about the MGM though.

92Mercury 11-23-2007 12:57 PM

I have a feeling the MGM is going to be around for a while.

It still is a rather large sales part for the Ford Company.

Thanks to us, we keep them alive!

92Mercury 11-24-2007 03:34 AM

Sure thing. Getting almost all the options. Hey, how does the heated seats work? Are there heating coils in the heats or does hot air blow down by the butt?

20marquis07 11-24-2007 05:54 PM

not sure how those work...in imports there are heating elements i think. don't know much about domestic heated seating at all.

EDIT: I'll do some research on those heated seats and find out - get back with you :)

Heated seats work with heating elements, you can buy them and have them put in, but expensive.

Certain imports (the more expensive ones), some Cadillacs and an option on the Ford Windstar offer ventilated seats. I'm only aware of the imports and Cadillac for them to blow warm air as well.

That's why I don't want leather seats, warm and sticky in the summer, ice cold in the winter. Exactly the opposite way of how you want it.

But the real kick is the heated steering wheel on BMW's. That's something!

BTW: The same dealership which has this offer is asking 14k for a LS MGM. How about that! Saw one in silver, with around 12,000 miles on it. Not even broken in yet.

i got the leather, like the stuff, just like you say, cold winter hot summer but with AC in the summer or leaving the windows down it doesnt take long to cool out.

biggest advantage i like is in case of a spill easy clean up - especially if i go thru the drive-thru, since i'm not the worlds best cool ...

BTW, maybe you need to go take the LS for a spin around the block, at least you can give it a "Consumer's"report hahahah

ionosphere 11-25-2007 04:51 PM

The salesman didn't know how the seats heat.

92Mercury 11-26-2007 09:56 AM

Spills easily clean up? What kind of messy things are you exercising in your car?

Of course, if there was a cupholder, spilled coffee would be history. Did I mention that I DO NOT HAVE A CUPHOLDER?

Greetings!

20marquis07 11-26-2007 03:19 PM

Think you might have mentioned you have NO cupholder

Oh, as for messy situations, not many just the "usual"

92Mercury 11-27-2007 08:00 AM

Did I mention before that I WILL HAVE cupholders in not too long? And not only 1, but 2!

Greetings!

ionosphere 11-27-2007 01:48 PM

Why do some posters call this car a panther?

20marquis07 11-27-2007 03:25 PM

The platform...

EDIT: You may recall a Fox Platform (83-86 small LTD/Marquis), the old Fairmont/Granada. Fox also was the platform of the older style mustangEdited by: 20marquis07

Let me know what type you get I am thinking of building a center console for mine. The Merc alreadyhas two cupholders that come out of the bottom of the dash but that is where i would like to put the cb.

20marquis07 11-27-2007 06:09 PM

which merc you got man? you gonna put in the marauder type center??

i like the way the marauder console is with the dials where the ashtray/cupholder go on the MGM

ionosphere 11-27-2007 09:37 PM

I'm buying a new merc because it DOESN'T have a center console, among other reasons. I love the legroom of the car due to it not having anything blocking my very wide thighs.
