well i''m only 17 so no rush, but hopefully in a few years i will have the
money for a new engine and tranny, rear end, frame beefing... I have a 91 marquis (efi) and i''m wondering if a 351 carbed crate motor will fit fine? I''m thinking height is the only dimention of concern. And, i want this car to still be driven lots like it was made to do, so i would like to keep the milage above 15mpg and on pump gas. These 351 crates go from 300-400hp and of course some are stoked for more hp. Is there any genarel hp or compression ratios, cam specs that would give me an idea of mpg and being pump gas run? same engine specs- 351 and 400hp fuel injected is also and option, but i like the sound and simplicity (somewhat simpler) of a big carbed engine. Heres an example of what i''m lookin at: 400 HP 351w Cobra / Mustang PRECISION MACHINED 351W BLOCK MICRO-POLISHED & DEBURRED NODULAR CRANKSHAFT SHOT PEEN HARDENED & STRESS RELIEVED CONNECTING RODS W/ 190,00 PSI ARP BOLTS HYPEREUTECTIC HEAVY DUTY PISTONS 9.7 TO 1 COMPRESSION SPEED PRO PISTON RINGS 3 PIECE STEEL ROLLER STYLE TIMING CHAIN Xtreme Energy Comp Cams Hydrualic Roller Camshaft New NEW MELLING OIL PUMP AND SCREEN EDELBROCK RPM ALUMINUM HEADS 60cc COMBUSTION CHAMBER STAINLESS STEEL SWIRL POLISHED INTAKE VALVES STAINLESS STEEL SWIRL POLISHED EXHAUST VALVES COMP CAMS MAGNUM ROLLER 1.6 RATIO ROCKERS HARD SEATS FOR UNLEADED OR REGULAR FUEL HEAVY DUTY 1.45 DIAMETER VALVE SPRINGS, 7 DEGREE LOCKS NEW HEAVY DUTY CHROME MOLY PUSH RODS NEW CHROME FRONT SUMP 5 QUART OIL PAN ALUMINUM TIMING CHAIN COVER WITH SCALE FORD COBRA BLACK WRINKLED ALUMINUM VALVE COVERS HEAVY DUTY SFI APPROVED STANDARD FLYWHEEL NEW EDELBROCK PERFORMER RPM DUAL PLANE INTAKE MANIFOLD NEW 4 BARREL 650 CFM EDELBROCK CARBURETOR WITH ELECTRIC CHOKE HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRONIC PERTRONIX BILLET DISTRIBUTOR AND COIL 8 MM ACCEL SILICONE WIRES NEW CHROME THERMOSTAT HOUSING NEW HIGH VOLUME FUEL PUMP HIGH FLOW WATER PUMP CHROME DIP TUBE AND DIPSTICK NEW BLACK WRINKLED COBRA OVAL AIR CLEANER WITH PCV VENTILATION SYSTEM NEW STEEL BRAIDED FUEL LINES AND GAS FILTER HOT RUN TESTED INCLUDES SETTING INITIAL AND FULL TIMING ADVANCE VIDEO FOOTAGE SHOWN OF YOUR ENGINE IN TEST STAND CHROME ONE WIRE HOOK UP 100 AMP ALTERNATOR MARCH POLISHED PULLEYS AND CHROME BRACKETS NEW V-BELT INSTALLED AND TENSION ADJUSTED BALANCED, BLUE PRINTED, ASSEMBLED BY ASE TECHNICIANS __________________ close only counts with shotguns and hand-grenades 91 marquis. no rust. 35k miles. I don''t see fitting the engine as being the problem. There might be minor clearance issues with the deck height, but it''s nothing a cool custom hood scoop couldn''t fix. Getting your stock gauges to work right will be an issue. And you''ll also have to drop the tank and remove the high pressure pump. IMO it would be easier to start with an EFI 5.8 and build it up with GT-40 parts. That way the electronics will at be close enough to get it working. Plug EFI motors are easier to start and get better economy. 15 MPG is not asking much. There''s no reason a 350-400 HP Windsor couldn''t get 20 on the freeway. Edited by: BFM70 |
sweet. hopefully i could make it fit under there, i''m sure it can be done.
Probly go with a 351 carbed crate, 400hp, and shiny with aluminum edelbrock heads, carb, and intake, painted and polished aluminum so it won''t be rustin. Not to mention, all the parts will be high performance, and will fit right with the other parts to maximise the efficiancy and hp of the engine. The car is a mint, white 91 with 35k miles on it to so investing in a nice 8 grand 400hp engine would not keep me awake at night.... well ide be driving it all night, haha. Thanks, 15-20 mpg is great news, i''ve seen that pretty much consistantly with them also. thanks again, andy |
