well i''m only 17 so no rush, but hopefully in a few years i will have the
money for a new engine and tranny, rear end, frame beefing... I have a 91
marquis (efi) and i''m wondering if a 351 carbed crate motor will fit fine?
I''m thinking height is the only dimention of concern.

And, i want this car to still be driven lots like it was made to do, so i
would like to keep the milage above 15mpg and on pump gas. These 351
crates go from 300-400hp and of course some are stoked for more hp. Is
there any genarel hp or compression ratios, cam specs that would give
me an idea of mpg and being pump gas run?

same engine specs- 351 and 400hp fuel injected is also and option, but i
like the sound and simplicity (somewhat simpler) of a big carbed engine.

Heres an example of what i''m lookin at:

I don''t see fitting the engine as being the problem. There might be minor clearance issues with the deck height, but it''s nothing a cool custom hood scoop couldn''t fix. Getting your stock gauges to work right will be an issue. And you''ll also have to drop the tank and remove the high pressure pump.

IMO it would be easier to start with an EFI 5.8 and build it up with GT-40 parts. That way the electronics will at be close enough to get it working. Plug EFI motors are easier to start and get better economy.

15 MPG is not asking much. There''s no reason a 350-400 HP Windsor couldn''t get 20 on the freeway.

sweet. hopefully i could make it fit under there, i''m sure it can be done.
Probly go with a 351 carbed crate, 400hp, and shiny with aluminum
edelbrock heads, carb, and intake, painted and polished aluminum so it
won''t be rustin. Not to mention, all the parts will be high performance, and
will fit right with the other parts to maximise the efficiancy and hp of the
engine. The car is a mint, white 91 with 35k miles on it to so investing in a
nice 8 grand 400hp engine would not keep me awake at night.... well ide be
driving it all night, haha. Thanks, 15-20 mpg is great news, i''ve seen that
pretty much consistantly with them also.

thanks again, andy
