i was wanting to do this http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/3ag/3ag.htm for my 91 grand marquis because my stock alt cant keep up with my aftermarket stereo. but at the bottom he says it wont work for ones that have the heated windshield (he is talking about the rear one right?). if so, how would i disable the heating option....would i just get into the dash and disconnect the wires that go to the defrost button or what?
thanks, J0n- < src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"> </> < ="text/"> _uacct = "UA-939292-45"; urchinTracker(); </> |
there is an upgrade you can do which involves getting a higher amperage alternator installed. it is called a 3g alternator found on tauruses with the 3.8 if i remember. it is a pretty simple upgrade.
about the heated windshield... there are some Grand Marquis cars and such that had a heated windshield. not the rear, but front. you can tell if windshield has a red glare to it and has defrost strips along bottom. the windshield will resemble this: http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthread.php?t=14511 the wagon pictured used to be mine and sold it to a member on site pictures are on for a project. i highly suggest doing a 3g upgrade and possibly using a cap to have as a backup when power is needed for your system. |
mine doesn't have a red glare, but it does have some black colored stuff around the outer edges of the top and bottom. so you think this isn't the heated windshield option? if needed i can get pictures.< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-45";

no red glare, not a heated windshield. the heated windshields have a gold colored defrost bars at bottom

thanks for the link, i've been looking all over the net and came up with quite a few different guides (all for mustangs) but i 'm confident that i can get it done. since i have the money and a 1600 watt rms stereo system in my ride i'm going with this 200 amp alt. its a steal compared to the price of aftermarket alts marketed towards people with stereos like mine. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/200-A...STANG-THUNDERB IRD-COUGAR-ALTERNATOR_W0QQitemZ280199935163QQihZ018QQcategor yZ33573QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem < src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-45"; urchinTracker(); </> Edited by: J0n- |
