Ok So I was on the highway and all of a sudden the transmission starts having a problem shifting and is over revving the speed starts dropping.

It only seems to do that when switching from third to fourth gear and only when in O/D. I might ssound stupid but is it the TCC or linkage? Somebody help please?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

the car is a four speed with overdrive? have you chrecked the tranny fluid on level groung while the car is in park and up to temperature? make sure it has bright red color and does'nt smell burnt. what happens when you stay out of overdrive?Edited by: conan312

My 1984 Grand Marquis is doing the same thing but with a rough idle as well. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Slipping only in overdrive is also anknown indicaton for the fluid to break down, shuttering (common on ''92s and others with AODE transmission) might be present or appear sooner or later.

Without going into detail (has been discussed here more than to an extend), transmission fluid gets hot, once under acceleration or load (or being driven at hot days, high speeds, long times etc etc), and breaks down.

Cheapest way to probably solve this issue and prevent any further and probably severe issues (shuttering) is following the basic TSB (completely, losers who just changed fluid and not magnet deserve no better) and convert to Mercon V.

I have done this about 1 year ago, and thus the improvement at first were minor, the issue appears now on such rare occaisons that I would call it almost non-existent anymore.

Greetings!

Any luck with any of the suggestions? Very good reply by 92MERCURY.

Yeah, the transmission was always an issue.

If I had listened to other comments or Ford, I would have had to purchase a new converter. But instead, I invested less money and gave the alternatives a try.

After all, if you are driving a "old" car, there will be issues, and it will be unavoidable to invest money. Nobody likes to do it, that''s why we are on these forums, right?

Greetings!
