It may just be pressed on like the shift knob on the older cars that don't have the electronic OD disable button there. That's probably going to be the biggest hurdle for changing the shifter is fitting the OD on/off button.

That's the problem is the OD button. The physical removal and reinstall of a new shift selector isn't the issue. I was more curious if anyone had experience of putting one into these cars, and if so, how they handled the install (due to the electronics portion). We've already overcome the hurdle(s) with the airbag; there was a siren that would continuously beep due to the airbag not being on or plugged in. Just want to avoid something similar to this happening w/the OD button being removed.

Also, with the RIDES magazine deal, if any of you guys would like to see a fellow Mercury Grand Marquis owner get some street cred, you should get on their website and drop them an email saying you want to see this ride featured in their mag!! You know the ole saying, "Power in Numbers!" The more people that write in, and maybe send them the link to the photos of the car too, the higher the probability that we can get the Maybach Merc featured!!!!

Here's RIDES' webpage: http://www.rides-mag.com/contact/
Here's link to the Merc's photo album: http://picasaweb.google.com/affordab...eat=directlink

Thanks again for all the help, comments, etc. fellas!!

I would say move the button to the dash and install whatever shifter you want.

An older Ford Van had the push-button for the O/D on the dash. I'll see what we can come up with. I've found a guy in FL here, billetandacrylic.com that does custom billet shifters, etc. So seeing if we can't get something one-off'd for the car. Still waiting on a steering wheel, adapter, and floor mats from our vendors (ugh). That's all that is needed to complete this car.

Does anyone know of a classifieds section for Mercury specific items? This owner would like to sell his previous custom ordered floor mats (navy blue) and also stock steering wheel, and maybe a few other pieces if they're needed (all navy trim interior).

Thanks,
-Josh

Got the steering wheel installed, adapter on, and the steering wheel wrapped! Here's the part number, for those of you that are interested in putting a custom steering wheel on your Grand Marquis: Lecarra Steering Wheels - Adapter #B-22411, BF-24KP 92-4 - $99.95 plus shipping & tax (if local). We did have to make slight modifications to the adapter to get the steering wheel (from Billet Specialties) to fit correctly. However, the adapter itself FITS fine w/o modification to the car.

that is tight!

Thanks slymer. We opted to just leave the shift selector alone for now. It was going to be close to $200, just for parts, not including labor. And the car has the black vents, black surrounds by the gauges, etc. So the black shift selector looks fine.

Thanks to the G/M Forums for letting us post our questions, and our photos! If you guys ever need any help on doing anything with parts, accessories, or most importantly UPHOLSTERY - let us know! We'd be more than happy to help you!
