air conditioning

Hello all. Well, just bought a 1999 G.M. from my folks who took great care of it. Well, wouldn't you know, take it off the lot and get it home and now we have a problem, lol. I had noticed the a/c compressor seemed to be cycling on/off the other day so I figured maybe it needed to be refilled. On my way home from work today (1 hour drive), I was a few minutes away from home when I heard a click sound and the temp control center went blank. The fuse blew, ok no biggie yet. When I got home and replaced the fuse, it blew again when I turned the a/c on. I went thru everything that the fuse controls, and it is the a/c causing the fuse to blow. Anyone have any idea what may be causing this or how to fix?? BTW, it is the #5 fuse that keeps blowing. Thanks for any replies..
