Brakes lights not working - switch?

From what I have gleaned online, the fact that I have NO brake lights means I need a new brake light switch. Am I correct?

TIA

Lever/switch control

:) Haven't logged in for a long time, to answer question that has probably been taken care of by now: The brake lights and other functions such as hazard are controlled by the switch inside column activated by turn signal lever/arm. That whole lever assembly has to be replaced by taking apart the column housing (pulling the ignition switch) etc. It is doable if you are careful and follow manual instructions to save a buck. If you find that you do not have brakelights and your car (trans) will not go into gear___ that is the switch that is connected to your brake-pedal that is in need of replacing. Also doable with a flashlight and patience. Hope this helps.

Thanks for responding. I replaced the brake light switch located above the brake pedal and fixed it. it was fairly simple, other than contorting my body under the steering wheel. :)

:D heh, heh. Yeah, contorsion city on that one. I had to leave the little spacer/sleeve off the replacement, would not slip in place with it on. Does not seem to need it for smooth operation, just in case anyone tangles with that particular repair.
