Check Engine Light

I was driving around in a huge rain storm. Water was coming down in sheets, cats and dogs. Water was pooling up on the roads. I hit a pool of water that I could really feel hit the bottom of the car. Almost right after this event, I saw the "Check Engine" light had come on. I parked the car in my garage and 24 hours later, I started the car and the "check engine" light was still on. OK, maybe I should just bite the bullet and take the car in. I think it is due for a maintenance check (it's a 2001 that just hit 17,000. Yes, that's what I said, 17,000 mile. The former owner was very old and did not drive much.

Anyway, I'm hoping some water just go on an electrode or something.

Something got wet for sure, probably a sensor. If the car is running fine then just reset the check eng. light by taking the neg. battery terminal off for a few minutes. If it comes back on then I would have it checked out or pull the trouble codes from the comp. yourself.

go by an autozone or some other parts place that will read the codes for free if you can. That will tell you which sensor is having an issue. It may just require disconnecting the wire harness and drying it out (wd-40 works great for that) and then putting some dielectric grease in there and reconnecting it. Definitely better than having to spend the money to replace it.
