I have a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis with a compass in the overhead console. It''s stuck on calibrate mode.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it working again?

Thanks.

You may need to complete the calibration procedure by setting the zone you are in. Procedure is in the maunual on page 55.

I tried that... repeatedly. Still stuck in calibration mode saying "SOUTHWEST CAL".

I assume that you have tried the reset procedure on page 57?

Yes, I did. Drove in circles for 10+ times and it never came out of calibration mode.

I may try the mirror out of my 98GM that has a compass built in. IF that works, I''ll scour ebay for a suitable replacement.

For a last resort. Remove the console from the roof and then remove the compass. I just may be a stuck button. Remove the screw at the front of the console them pull straight down from each side. Takes a little force. Four push-in clips hold the unit to the roof. Unplug the cable. Be careful not to pull down the headliner. I have had mine out just for cleaning of the lens. Tom

If you do take it out, hook it up without mounting it in the console and run thru the cal procedure just for fun and see what it does.

Thanks for the info. I didn''t notice a screw on it, but I haven''t really looked yet. I''ll take a look at it this afternoon and see what I find.

Honestly, I don''t care for the display anyway... it''s too dim all the time. I liked the one in the mirror on my 98 MGM.

be careful when removing such a item. On Gm cars they are place with precise and the slightest move will make it even more unreadable. If you put it back in wrong you will alllways get a wrong reading. go with the other mirror if you like it better. it is cheaper and less of a headache

Yeah, I looked today and don''t see a screw anywhere on the overhead piece. Maybe I''ll try the mirror switch next weekend... this weekend kind of got away from me.
