Compass Not Working on 06 GM

I just bought a 2006 GM LS Premium with 80K on the clock. The compass does not work. The map lights work but I didn't test the Homelink transmitters yet.

Does anybody have any idea where to start? I press and hold the Mode button, but the display remains unlit. Any ideas?

check for power at compass connector, if you have a volt meter you should have 10 volts there.

Well, if anyone here is still interested. Or comes across this, i just fixed mine. 2007 Grand Marquis LS., compass wouldnt work. Easy fix, remove the console (1 screw in the back by mirror, then pull it down, the clips hold it tight, so its a workout.) Disconnect the plugs, and remove the compass module, you will see there are 4 plastic clips holding the case arou d the circuit board. Remove the circuit board from the case. Take a small screwdriver and check the small rectangle resistors on the board marked 510. One should lift on one edge. Add some more solder to hold that connection. Reassemble and it should work fine. ;)

Just wanted to thank you for this. You were EXACTLY right. Took the console down. One screw you mentioned up front and two small black screws above the sun glasses trap door. Use plastic pry bars and it came away easily. Opened concealed circuit board and the surface mount resistors were poorly soldered. One was hanging down. Soldered it back in place and it works like it should.

Worked like a Champ!!!!!!

Man, let me tell you. I followed your instructions to a "T" and I was floored when I put it back together and it worked. That 510 resistor didn't appear to be needing to be resoldered but it did.
Thanks so much Bruh.
