Compsit Hood and trunk lid?

I have a 95 Merc GM (Canadian made). Recently I tried to mount a magnetic antennae on the trunk lid discovered that the trunk lid and hood are non magnetic. Is this the case for all models or part of the performance package? Any info is appreciated.
