Default crooked steering column

2002 Mercury Grand Marquis - the steering column is crooked. There is no gap on the left side and a large gap on the right side where the column goes into the dashboard. This causes the steering wheel to be crooked. How can this be corrected?

Default

take the panel off under the dash (above the pedals) and find the bolts that hold the brace/bracket that holds the steering shaft. loosen them enough to be able to move the shaft side to side. center the column and tighten the bolts back down.
