Cutting Muffler? Good/ Bad Idea?
I have an 87 Grand Marquis and my muffler needs to be replaced due to rotting and pitting. But I saw a video where a guy took his muffler off and had straight pipes. Is that a good idea or not? I hear the loss of back pressure and so on and so forth can damage the engine but how true is that? Would it be better to go with an aftermarket muffler if I want the sound? Thanks...

your car should have 4 cats on it... 2 under the car on each side and 2 on downpipes leading to under the car... they will create enough back pressure... i personally dont like the sound the car makes without muffler of some sort... i would go with a different set up of muffler instead of an annoying raspy sound.... i need to at some point do this on my 1986 Grand Marquis with dual exhaust since it has an exhaust leak some place... it sounds good now, but rather have better flowing mufflers that make better sound
