E85
 

Hello All,

I have a 2009 Grand Marquis Flex Fuel with 95000 miles. I was debating about trying out E85 for the first time. It has never been run with it before. The price around here is about 60 cents cheaper than gas, so i was thinking about it. Anyone have any thoughts?

The biggest difference between the Gasoline and E-85 cars is in the FUEL MILEAGE.
2009 Grand Marquis -- 4.6 Liter engine, 4-speed Automatic Trans:
E-85 = 12 mpg CITY, 17 mpg Highway
87 Octane Gas = 16 mpg CITY, 24 mpg Highway.
I would stick with the 87 Octane Gasoline -- better availability, better mileage, longer range, and less fill-ups.

My sister owned my 2008 Marquis since 15,000 miles and has used E-85 exclusively. I have continued to use it since I purchased it at 75,000 and the car now has 122,000 on it. E-85 is rated at 105 octane, which, since the engine management system adjusts for it, I would suspect the performance would be boosted as a result, although I have no facts to back that up. I do know the fuel is much cleaner than refined petroleum fuel, which results in fewer carbon deposits that I hope will bring extended life to the engine and fuel system.

Yessir, the E-85 fuel is MUCH cleaner-burning than E-10, E-15; or regular non-ethanol gasoline -- Clean is good !!
Although the OCTANE rating is high, the actual PERFORMANCE is lagging, as is evidenced by the POOR fuel mileage of the E-85.
Higher Octane does not mean "higher power" -- it means "slower-burning" -- avoids detonation.
I've never run an E-85 vehicle, so have no personal experience with potential problems.
87 Octane Chevron (E-10) Gasoline is what I prefer for the 95 MERC. Good combination of performance and mileage.
You're dead-on about the carbon deposits -- the E-85 should keep your engine's internals CLEAN, thus avoiding many problems.
