Engine Coolant Sensor

Where is the coolant temperature sensor located in a 2001 Grand Marquis?

I am not asking about the coolant temperature sending unit that drives the temp guage in the instrument cluster. I am asking about the sensor that informs the engine computer about the coolant temp.

Some books report that the sensor is on the intake manifold. It is not so on mine. Only the temp sending unit is located on the intake manifold. This sending unit does not send info to both the guage and the computer. I know this because when I disconnect the sending unit the temp gauge on the instrument panel does not work, but the readout from my Scan II tool still reports changing temperatures being sent to the computer.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

UPDATE - Well, I found from where the temperature is being measured and sent to the OBDII connection. The temperature report is coming from the Cylinder Head Temperature sensor. It is part of the temperature fail-safe system. It is not east to get to - one has to remove the intake manifold. I think I shall leave that for some other time.
