I have a 1992 Grand Marquis with the 4.6. The motor is seized up do to two rods through the side of the block. How can I separate the motor from the transmission if I can't unbolt the torque converter? I did manage to get them separated about a half an inch and thats it.

Well found my problem. There are 4 motor mount bolts on there and not 2. It came right out of there after I took them out.

ok, I got the engine in and running. But, I lost a retaining click for the transmission cable and don't have a clue what it is called. It is the retainer that holds the transmission cable to the intake linkage. If anybody knows what it is called please let me know, it'd be easier to find one if I knew what it was called. From what I can remember it was round and snapped into the intake linkage, then the cable snapped into it. For now it's held in place with a zip tie.

what you are describing is the TV grommet. go to a ford dealer and get the brass bushing replacement for about $5. if you run your car the way you are without the grommet in there you will burn your transmission up and cause bigger headaches.

hopefully this helps show the part.the bushing/grommet helps maintain the transmission pessure under different operating loads and without it the transmission runs at a constant pressure that will burn up the transmission. i would park the car or get it fixed asap. you can go to the parts store and get a bushing kit in the help section that has about 5 or so different bushings that 1 will werk to replace what is messed up. i prefer the brass due to it not wearing out like the plastic.

Thank you, thats the part that's missing. I did take the car for a test run without it hooked up and the transmission had a bad shudder to it. After I zip tied it and adjusted it, the shudder stopped. I'll have to check the transmission shop here in town for one.
