heat blower

Hi all! I have a problem. My heat blower for my 2001 Grand Marquis works on and off. I checked the fuses under the dash and they are all okay. I don't know why it will work sometimes and not others. What could be the problem? Thanks.

are you talking about the blower motor in all posotions.

Do you have ATC or auto air ?

There is a module located on the heater hoses just before they enter the firewall.

That is a common issue for Blower MOTOR issues

check out autozone's repair section

register with your vehicle and use their repair manual.

Hi Mil1ion....thanks for responding. The air does not blow out from any vent...either from the dash or the floor. Yes I have an automatic button that I can press and I've tried switching to automatic but it doesn't do anything. I will check out autozone's repair section, register my vehicle and use the repair manual. Thanks for the info and I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Mil1ion...but autozone didn't help my problem. I think it's an electrical short somewhere. Damn!

The ATC is well known for issues.

When I say auto air vs manual... auto air has slide knob that lines ofm up with temps.

There are so many things that are related

Near the firewall the heater hoses are attached to a special control that allows or denies the fan from coming on.

For $9.00 you can buy the OEM shop manual for your car on Ebay and it goes into detail on T-Shooting HVAC issues

From autozone

Vehicle air conditioning is the cooling r refrigeration of the air in the passenger compartment. Refrigeration I accomplished by making practical use of the laws of nature. HEAT GOES TO LESS HEAT. All this means is that heat transfers. If two substances of different temperature are placed near each other, the heat in the warmer substance will always travel to the colder substance until both are of equal temperature.
As a fail-safe, the air handling system is designed to provide defrost when no vacuum is applied to any of the vacuum control motors. This is done to prevent a situation where defrost cannot be obtained due to a system vacuum leak. Instead, a leak in the vacuum control circuit will send all airflow to the defroster outlets. This condition may occur during acceleration (slow vacuum leak), may exist at all times (large vacuum leak), and may happen only when certain specific functions are selected, indicating a leak in that portion of the circuit.
